About me, about the Project

My name is Paul Burke and I am a designer and entrepreneur based in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, United Kingdom.

My idea was to set up a sustainable business model that could create charitable income year after year. For this to work the business has to be profitable, ethical and transparent. With this in mind and with my background in IT, I came up with the idea of Onethirdeach.

Income is generated by selling timeslots on a website to advertisers who place their content on a large screen on the site. If we sell all the timeslots we will generate over $1,000,000 in the course of the first draw. This income will be divided one third to charities voted for by entrants, one third to the prize fund and one third to the business to create jobs, develop the website, the business model and sponsor other draws throughout the year. No one takes fat-cat wages or huge dividends.

Our model builds an audience of regular returners, web savvy users who can sign up daily for a chance to be in a large prize draw that is tied to celebratory dates, starting with Christmas 2009.

Our target is a charity donation of $1,000,000 (one third of our income) by the end of 2010. We also aim to raise at least $333,000 by Christmas 2009 to be shared between 3 charities as voted for by entrants.
